The beaches have recently been protected from the dumping of local sewage by a multi-million pound scheme to clean the water and the Coast Erosion program which has seen the sea walls strengthened and near Jaywick, new beaches created.

Car Boot Sales and Markets
All through the year the Warwick Castle site, on Old road provides Markets on Saturday and Tuesday. There you can find fresh fruit, local potatoes, Books, Magazines, Dresses, Coats, Handbags, shoes etc, all at discount prices that even the local shops cannot match.
On Thursday, Friday and Sunday there are Car boot Sales, the biggest of which is on the Sunday. This is where a mixture of residents clear-out thier garages, basements and lofts to sell off their items to clear the space. From six year children sell Pokemon Cards or old toys to Adults selling everything from Computers to Antiques.
This is where the deals are struck for later on in life!
Some Dealers also attend and the prices are very cheap, starting from 10p upwards for a wine glass, 50p for a cassette radio, one pound sponge cakes etc.
Car Boot Sales
also take place on Saturdays, Sundays and Bank Holidays during the Spring through to the Autumn where you can find the occasional antique as well as many bargains from Computers to Flowers and Vegetables.
